The Hilo High girls volleyball team opened its Big Island Interscholastic Federation season with a victory Wednesday night in Kapaau, sweeping Kohala 25-12, 25-8, 25-22.

The Division I Vikings host two-time defending Division II champion Hawaii Prep tonight at Hilo Armory. The junior varsity match is first at 6 p.m.

In other varsity matches Wednesday, Honokaa swept visiting Makua Lani 25-17, 25-7, 25-15; Konawaena went to Waimea and beat Parker 25-7, 25-11, 25-11; and Kealakehe won at Laupahoehoe 25-5, 25-10, 25-12

In JV: Hawaii Academy of Arts and Sciences def. Kealakehe 23-25, 21-13, 15-13; Hilo def. Kohala 21-7, 21-16; and Konawaena def. Kanu o ka ‘Aina 21-6, 21-12
